3 Textured Framing

Sample Image

Skill Level: Beginner - Advanced

Items needed for this tutorial:

1: One image that is about 321 X 432 pixels (rectangular shape). Don't choose a huge size image as you will be adding to it and then at the end will be resizing it back to a smaller size. This means that your computers will need a good amount of ram (random access memory)

2: One wood tiled image or a filter that you can create wood with.

3: Blade Pro or Super Blade Pro for creating gold.

4: EyeCandy 4000 for creating Marble, or any filter that can create marble.

Step 1:

Open the image you are going to be framing and make a copy of it. Close the original.

Step 2:

Double click on the "Background" layer in the layer control box to make the image into a "raster" image.

Step 3:

Go Image/Canvas Size and add some empty space around the image. The space should be equal on all 4 sides.

Step 4:

Make your Magic Wand your active tool and touch in the "empty" space around your image, then go to Selections/Promote Selection to Layer. You should now have something similar to the below that has been resized extensively for the purpose of this tutorial.

Step 5:

Open up your "wood" tile and change your foreground to Pattern. Flood fill the newly promoted selection with your wood pattern. Do not deselect just yet.

Step 6:

Go Selections/Invert and then go Effects 3 D Effects and choose Cutout. Here are the settings I used. When done with Cutout you may deselect.

Step 7:

Repeat steps 3 and 4 adding the same number of pixels to the sides as you did in step 3.

Step 8:

Instead of using your wood pattern you will flood this selection with white, then use your Blade Pro or Super Blade pro to make your gold frame.

Step 9:

Repeat Step 6 and then deselect.

Step 10:

Right click on any layer in the Layer control box and choose Merge/Merge visible.

Step 11:

Repeat Step 4 adding the same amount of pixels (mine was 54 remember?)

Step 12:

Choose two colors from your image and make the foreground color the lighter of the two colors and the background the darker of the two colors, and flood fill your selection with the foreground color.

Step 13:

Go Effects/Plugins/EyeCandy 4000/Marble and apply settings you like but here are mine for you to see.

Step 14:

Turn off your bottom layer and then make sure you are on the top layer. With your magic wand touch in the center blank space.

Step 15:

With the center space selected go Effects/3D effects/Drop Shadow and apply a drop shadow of your choice. Here is what I used.

Drop Shadow settings

Repeat the drop shadow only reverse the numbers "vertical" becomes a negative number and "horizontal" becomes a positive number.

You could leave your image as it is now or you can add a smaller amount of space on all 4 sides and reuse your wood tile and then add some fancy corners and gilde the corners. I will leave mine as is, but here is a sample with the extra border and corners added.

At this point the Tutorial is finished.
